Dr. Wilfred Aguila

Medical doctor and author Wilfred Aguila, “ Dr. A”, presents radical new ideas for losing weight, and importantly, not gaining it all back. Countless books provide diet and exercise plans; Why I Don't Lose Weight provides the missing ingredient. The key to success is discovering why you fail at weight loss and "learning not to fail." The Cycle can keep you stuck in a perpetual loop. Overeating is part of the cycle, but not the main part. There is also anxiety, guilt, and depression. Anxiety is what starts the Cycle. Anxiety prompts overeating, which leads to guilt, which leads to anxiety - which leads to overeating. The solution is learning how to keep anxiety in check. The stereotype is that obese people are underachievers or lazy, but Aguila knows that's not so. Too often, they are perfectionists who work hard to do everything right. This can lead to all-or-nothing thinking. Any diet misstep makes a perfectionist drop the whole thing. Why I Don't Lose Weight is a blueprint on how not to fail. It includes easy-to-understand tools that readers can use daily on their own journey to success. Dr. Wilfred Aguila MD practices general surgery in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Aguila graduated with an MD 20 years ago. He is now a specialist in Bariatric Surgery and is pioneering new treatments for obesity. View Guest page

Rocky Fino

Rocky Fino knows the titles of his books give readers a chuckle. After all, the author of Will Cook for Sex: A Guy’s Guide to Cooking, Will Mix for Sex: 21 Classic Cocktails to Set the Mood and Will Cook for Sex Again, Again and Again earned himself the affectionate designation of “the show’s giggle” at a 2005 literary trade show. But when it comes down to showing men that cooking for a woman doesn’t have to be intimidating, the culinary writer and presenter takes his mission very seriously. In his books, meal demonstrations, and speaking engagements, Fino breaks cooking down into simple steps and complements his recipes with visual aids and amusing anecdotes about his own trials and errors – thereby reassuring men (and, often, women) that they, too, can impress a date by developing some basic confidence and creativity in the kitchen. With a playful and approachably self-depreciating style, Fino guides would-be seductors through specific topics like essential equipment, salmon vs. steak, and meals the morning after. As a pioneer in the field of pairing and cooking with craft beer, the California-based chef also challenges readers and viewers to break with tradition by serving elegant beers instead of wine to score points in the crucial categories of innovation, forethought and attention to detail. Fino, who spent many a childhood night cooking for the family with his father, received a B.A. in Radio, TV and Film from Temple University and an M.B.A. from California State University. The skills he learned in school combine with a natural sense of humor to make him a sought-after broadcast media commentator and featured chef at food, drink and relationship expos and events across the country. To wit, Fino is the resident cooking expert for TV8 in Vail, Colorado, and appears frequently on TV news and cooking shows in Philadelphia, Manhattan and St. Louis. He’s also the featured guest chef for the Atlantic City Beerfest. Fino’s first book, Will Cook for Sex, published by Stephen’s Press in 2005, won ForeWord Magazine’s “Cookbook of the Year” award and has received praise from publications such as Men’s Health Magazine, Maxim, Hooters Magazine, Philadelphia Inquirer and St. Petersburg Times. When her husband Tim Fisher became ill in 1990 with a cancerous brain tumor, Julia became his medical advocate and began writ¬ing on topics relating to health and medicine. Her articles and columns, which are critical of various aspects of the healthcare system, have been published in numerous publications, both professional and mainstream. Julia wrote her book, HONEST MEDICINE: Effective, Time-Tested, Inexpensive Treatments for Life-Threatening Diseases, in order to educate the public about some really excellent treatments the medical profession has not yet accepted—treatments for life-threatening diseases, such as MS, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, epilepsy and terminal liver disease. As Julia points out in HONEST MEDICINE, these treatments often work better and have fewer side effects than the pharmaceutical treatments most doctors recommend. Julia’s mission is to use her writing, speaking and public relations skills to inform the world about little-known but promising treatments via her website, her presentations and her book, and to empower people in their health care choices.
