Jill Schiefelbein is an accomplished speaker, author, professor and business owner. She's the owner of Impromptu Guru, a communication consulting company that was named Gilbert, Arizona's 2012 "Rookie of the Year" less than a year after its inception. She works with professional athletes, politicians, business executives and groups to improve their communication and messaging strategies. Impromptu Guru helps clients gain confidence in their communication behaviors, and prepares its clients to speak well, any time, every time.
A co-author of Business and Professional Communication in the Global Workplace, Schiefelbein is artfully skilled in both the theory and practice of business communication. For the past nine years, she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Communication and Online Education at the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University. She makes the theoretical tangible in ways that help organizations increase their productivity and profitability.
Prior to launching Impromptu Guru, Schiefelbein created the Office of Online Programs at ASU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and today she serves as an expert consultant in online education and training to universities and corporate organizations across the country. My career in broadcasting has taken me many places across the country, and one interesting stop in early my weather career was in “Tornado Alley” at KCEN-TV in central Texas. I certainly saw some big-time severe weather during my tenure there, but the most dangerous storms I've ever covered were actually in Mississippi during grad school, when I worked for WTVA-TV and WCBI-TV. After several years in the heat of south it was time for a major change in temperatures, so it was off to WJBK-TV - in Detroit! As you can imagine, in Michigan the focus shifts dramatically to forecasting the kind of fierce winter weather the Great Lakes are so famous for. It was in Detroit that I was honored to receive several broadcast awards, including an Emmy. Despite those years up on the Canadian border, with out a doubt the biggest snowstorms I’ve ever forecasted were right here in Maryland, during the infamous “Snowpocalypse” blizzards of 2009-2010! That triple-header of record smashing storms was simply stunning, and certainly helped prepare me for my current role of Chief Meteorologist here at ABC 2. One thing that remains the same no matter where I’ve worked is that I always like hearing from you the viewer.
