Ken Banks

Ken Banks, founder of kiwanja.net, devotes himself to the application of mobile technology for positive social and environmental change in the developing world, and has spent the last two decades working on projects in Africa. His early research resulted in the development of FrontlineSMS, an award-winning text messaging field communication system aimed at grassroots non-profit organizations. Ken graduated from Sussex, was awarded a Stanford University Reuters Digital Vision Fellowship in 2006, and named a Pop!Tech Social Innovation Fellow in 2008. In 2009 he was named a Laureate of the Tech Awards. He was named a National Geographic Emerging Explorer in May 2010. Dr. Sasha Kramer is an ecologist and human rights observer who has been working in Haiti since 2004. In 2006 she received her Ph.D. in Ecology from Stanford University and co-founded Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL), a non-profit dedicated to protecting soil resources, empowering communities and transforming wastes into resources in Haiti. Wendy previously ran a philanthropy and nonprofit consulting business. She worked as a program officer at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. As a program officer at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, she designed a $25 million, five-year cross-cutting initiative on population, health, and environment. Wendy has worked at the World Wildlife Fund, WorldWIDE Network and the United Nations Environment Programme. She received her B.A. from the University of Colorado and her M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. Don Quayle

Don Quayle was born and educated in Logan, Utah, completing two degrees at Utah State University. With his wife, Yvonne, also a Logan native, Don began his trek east by moving to Columbus, Ohio for study at Ohio State University. An association with WOSU-FM-TV in 1956 began a 35 year career in Public Broadcasting that would take him to Boston, New York City and Washington, DC. He worked for individual stations, regional and national organizations during that time. Soon after he moved to the Washington, DC area in 1970, he was chosen to be the first President of National Public Radio (NPR). He and Vonn joined ILR in 2004 and have participated each semester since then. Don’s main accomplishment is a family of five children, thirteen grand children and two great grand children. Chris Waddell

Chris Waddell was a promising skier at Middlebury College in 1988 when a skiing accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. Determined to return to the slopes, in just a few years he was named to the US Disabled Ski Team. The most decorated male skier in Paralympic history, Chris won 12 medals over four games, and has medaled in both summer and winter games. He is the first paraplegic to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro unassisted, and he was inducted into both the Paralympic Hall of Fame and the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. Chris has been named the Dalai Lama's unsung hero of compassion and has been featured in numerous publications, including Outside Magazine, Skiing, Ski, and National Geographic Explorer. He has appeared on Dateline and Oprah. In addition to his work with the Paralympics and the International Paralympic Committee, Chris is a motivational speaker. Before joining Trout Unlimited in September 2001, Chris Wood served as the Senior Policy and Communications Advisor to the Chief of the US Forest Service for five years. Chris began his career with Forest Service Research in Idaho and also worked for the Fish and Wildlife Program of the Bureau of Land Management. Since arriving at TU, Chris has worked with various sportsmen organizations to protect iconic landscapes such as the Wyoming Range and Idaho’s backcountry road-less areas. He has successfully formed partnerships with various foundations, landowners, state and federal agencies to find conservation solutions that balance the needs of fish and people. Chris is the co-editor and author of two books: “Watershed Restoration: Principles and Practices” (AFS 1997) and “From Conquest to Conservation: Our Public Land Legacy” (Island Press, 2003).
