Janet Smylie

Dr. Janet Smylie is a family physician, public health researcher and research scientist. She leads an Aboriginal Research program at the Centre for Research on Inner City Health, at St. Michael’s hospital, in partnership with eighteen First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities and organizations. She’s an Associate Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Her research addresses the health inequities that challenge Indigenous infants, children and their families. For her research she’s received a New Investigator award in Knowledge Translation. She’s practiced and taught family medicine in various urban and rural Aboriginal communities. She’s in part-time clinical practice at Seventh Generation Midwives, Toronto. She’s a member of the Métis Nation of Ontario, with Métis roots in Saskatchewan.
