Juan Flores

Juan Flores is Professor of Latino Studies, Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University. His research focus is social and cultural theory, Latino and Puerto Rican studies, popular music, theory of diaspora and transnational communities, Afro-Latino culture. Books include Divided Borders: Essays on Puerto Rican Identity, From Bomba to Hip-Hop: Puerto Rican Culture and Latino Identity, and The Diaspora Strikes Back: Caribeño Tales of Learning and Turning. Juan was twice awarded the Casa de las Americas Prize, and the Latino Legacy award of the Smithsonian Institution. They co-edited The Afro-Latino Reader: History and Culture in the United States, a 2011 American Book Award.
