Heather Kirkwood graduated from Harvard Law School with honors, practiced as a senior Federal Trade Commission attorney, and has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in major private litigation involving securities fraud, RICO & antitrust claims.

She works pro bono on actual innocence cases involving shaken baby syndrome, abusive head trauma, and other medical misdiagnoses of child abuse. She reviews cases, evaluates medical evidence, advises attorneys, and occasionally represents parents or caretakers unjustly accused or convicted. Two of her habeas petitions led to reversals of the convictions and coverage by major media, including the New York Times Magazine, Frontline, NPR, and ProPublica.

Heather gives lectures on shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma. Besides addressing retaliation suffered by defense experts in BBC broadcasts, she wrote a letter on behalf of multiple law school innocence clinics published by the New York Times Magazine.
