John O'Brien

Executive coach Dr. John O'Brien works with individuals whose jobs serve as a significant stressor. Using evidence-based methods derived from years of helping people heal from trauma, John coaches clients on ways to increase their stress resilience and to navigate difficult interpersonal situations. He especially enjoys assisting organizational teams in resolving conflicts and improving communication in ways that allow for more effective workflow and collaboration. John earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University in 1996. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maine at Augusta, teaching courses in psychology and addictions. He has held numerous elected leadership positions in professional organizations, including President of the Maine Psychological Association and member of the American Psychological Association (APA)’s Committee on Rural Health. He is currently Co-Chair of Continuing Education for the APA Society of Consulting Psychologists. John is an Associate Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation and a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach. He coaches leaders in a variety of fields, including business, health care and law. In his spare time, John enjoys motorcycling, skiing, biking and furthering his ability in German.
