Robert K. Ross, MD, is president and CEO of The California Endowment, started in 1996 to address the health needs of Californians. During his tenure, the foundation has focused on underserved Californians by championing health coverage for all children, strengthening community health centers, improving services for farm workers and ex-offenders, and increasing racial and ethnic diversity in health professions. In 2006, Bob was named by Capitol Weekly as one of California’s most influential civic leaders. With a broad background as a clinician and public health administrator, Bob has served as director of the Health and Human Services Agency for San Diego County, Commissioner of Public Health for Philadelphia, and medical director of LINK School-Based Clinic Program in New Jersey. His numerous awards include the Council on Foundations’ 2008 Distinguished Grantmaker of the Year, Youth Advocacy Humanitarian of the Year, and Outstanding Community Service from Volunteers of America.
