Episode Description

The Rolling Stones once said: “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you find you get what you need.” But when you’re single and dating, can you get what you need without settling? Is even a little settling too much? How do you keep your bar raised, your standards high, and still be realistic? The real truth is, you get what you need when you stop searching, and start settling. Settling isn’t a dirty word, it’s just misunderstood. On this week’s episode of DONE BEING SINGLE, we’re inviting Lori Gottlieb, psychotherapist and author of the New York Times bestseller, “MARRY HIM: The Case For Marrying Mr. Good Enough,” to put a different spin on settling. And she should know—she wrote the book on it.

How did Treva and Robby Scharf know it was time to settle down? Because they were done being single.

Before getting married at 51 and 57, Treva and Robby did it all, dated it all, but neither could close the deal.

At almost 50, Treva decided to give up on marriage and resign herself to eternal singleness, while Robby kept his options open, telling himself when it was “right” he’d know it.

Even though they were from the same hometown, Facebook ultimately brought them together. Once they became acquainted online, they ended up meeting in person at Treva’s 50th birthday party.

A week later, they went on their first date. Six months later, they got engaged. Nine months after that, they got married. And in February 2017, they gave birth to Done Being Single, a podcast that covers all aspects of single life, relationships, and finding love later in life. It’s a labor of love, packed with knowledge and know-how from their single years.

To augment Treva and Robby’s dating wisdom, they’ve enlisted the world’s best dating coaches, relationship experts, best-selling authors, therapists, doctors, and personal growth thought leaders to help people navigate the modern world of love.

From singles advice to life advice, dating tips to sex tips, self-help to self-empowerment, Done Being Single and its hosts do it all with candor, honesty, and humor.
