Episode Description

Inspired in the early days by Dr. Bill Thomas, the team at Miravida Living met the challenge to think differently about the way in which they were serving seniors. Today, their innovative programming reflects the possibilities that provides a meaningful and purposeful living environment to the seniors who live in their community. Many of the innovative programs arose during the pandemic, but they are rooted in a serving mindset not only for residents, but for the families of the residents. The team reached out to families, responded to and listened to their needs and were able to fill in the communication gaps i by understanding those needs with a variety of ways beyond the traditional face time visits. Miravida living was able to connect elders with children, grandchildren, friends and their friends inside the community. Everything was done to mitigate isolation and loneliness as much as possible which has led to robust programming beyond the pandemic. However, even prior to the pandemic, the programming offered by Miravida Living can be a model of the possibilities for creating a meaningful, dignified and respectful living environment. The conversation with Carrie prompted more ideas and highlights that conversation and creative mindset goes a long way in meeting the needs of our elders.
