Water for Life
November 9, 2009
Hosted by John D. Schmidt
Sandra Postel, leading authority and prolific writer on international water issues and director of the Global Water Policy Project, joins ZOOM’D to explore the insatiable demands on the planet’s finite water supply—and the disconnection from the fundamental role of water as the basis for all life. Sandra describes the current utilitarian views that govern our primary relationship with water and how we must move toward a more integrated and holistic approach to water policy and water strategy, one that ensures an environmentally secure world in which all people and living things may thrive. Sandra brings to life her 25 years of experience with water issues and offers a riveting look at current realities, future expectations, vision of possibilities, and the resilience needed for a viable transition. Water is life—and this episode underscores water’s centrality to life on the planet.

ZOOM’D takes you out to big picture issues of the day, in to up-close-and-personal capacities of leadership, and toward a desirable future of constant renewal.
Whether focused on the economic crisis, energy, climate change, or sustainability at large, ZOOM’D looks at what is really going on. We’ll examine patterns at play, drivers behind them, perspectives of leadership, and the importance of changing the way we pursue the future.
ZOOM’D uniquely interweaves emphasis on the objective and subjective—on tangible shifts needed in systems, institutions, governance, and behaviors; and on intangible values, cultures, and leader mindsets needed to see, shape, and orchestrate the shifts.
ZOOM’D bridges the conceptual to the practical for all in business, government, and civil society to benefit from and to activate leadership around.
