Episode Description

What does take to predict effective leadership in complex, rapidly changing conditions? According to my guest, Dr. Leslie Pratch, an answer lies in understanding how executives will cope with unexpected complexities and challenges. Central to her predictive model is a structural psychological construct called active coping, which she conceptualizes not as a situation specific behavior or trait but as a style of functioning. She defines active coping as the readiness, willingness, and ability, not necessarily revealed in overt behavior, to adapt resourcefully and effectively to novel and changing conditions. Tune in as we explore the dimensions of active coping that contribute to effective leadership. Through numerous case studies, you’ll hear how the coping styles of leaders shaped their effectiveness.
