Not Your Stereotypical Radio Show!!!
October 14, 2014
Hosted by Suzanne Z. Pedro
We all do it on a regular basis. Sometimes we are not aware of it, and sometimes we do not mean anything by it. Sometimes we even do it to ourselves. Stereotype. At one time or another, we have all been the victims of “stereotype threat,” the risk of confirming a negative stereotype about ourselves or a group to which we belong. Stereotype threat has contributed to educational and social inequality in all aspects of our lives—in sports, in the boardroom, and in the bedroom. As we learn about the cognitive and motivational factors associated with stereotyping, we can empower ourselves by recognizing it and subsequently avoiding it. Join me and my guest Professor Steven Stroessner whose research focuses on stereotyping and prejudice, the causes, and how we can reduce the negative effects of stereotyping in our everyday lives. This week’s show is sure to live up to the stereotype of EMPOWERING YOU! So tune in!
