Michele Booth Cole

Michele Booth Cole, executive director of Safe Shores -- The DC Children’s Advocacy Center, leads a collaborative effort to provide intervention, hope and healing for child victims of abuse and witnesses to violence. Michele has raised awareness about child abuse and ways to prevent crimes against children. She has been a commentator on WAMU and a guest on WHUR’s The Daily Drum. Additionally, her opinion pieces have appeared in The Washington Post blog TheRootDC and in The Washington Informer. In 2011, Essence magazine named Michele a “true leader”; the Washingtonian magazine named her a 2009 Washingtonian of the Year; the Eugene and Agnes Meyer Foundation honored her with a 2007 Exponent Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership; and in 2007 she received the Commissioner’s Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe College and Georgetown University Law Center, Michele and her husband are the parents of three school-age children.
