Dan Smoot is a 1982 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Dan served with the Kentucky State Police for 22 years; the majority of that time was in narcotic enforcement. While with the Kentucky State Police, Dan received two Meritorious Service Awards, two Commissioner Commendations and was selected the 2002 State Wide Trooper of the Year. In November 2003, Dan was named the Task Force Manager for the Kentucky River Region. He was then promoted to law Enforcement Director in December of that same year, and was named Vice President of UNITE in September 2011. He presently serves as the 1st Vice President of the Kentucky Narcotics Officers Association and 1st Vice President of the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police. In May 2013, Dan was named President / CEO of Operation UNITE. Dan is often called upon to speak at National Conferences on various drug abuse issues and has testified before numerous State legislatures on matters related to controlled substances.
