Miriam Labbok
Miriam Labbok, MD, MPH, IBCLC, FACPM, FABM, FILCA is the Director of the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute and Professor of Maternal and Child Health at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. She is a founder of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and Co-Chair of the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action. Previous positions include: Senior Advisor, Infant and Young Child Feeding and Care, UNICEF; Chief, Maternal Health and Nutrition Division, USAID; Associate Professor, Georgetown University Medical Center and Co-Director, Institute for Reproductive Health, and Assistant Professor, Johns Hopkins. During 35 years of research, teaching, policy and program work on the health of the mother-child dyad, Miriam worked in more than 50 countries, published over 300 chapters and articles on breastfeeding, birth spacing, child growth, the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, and more. She has been recognized by multiple academic, government and public service groups for lifetime contributions and for the development of the Lactational Amenorrhea Method.
