Francine Shapiro, Ph.D.

Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., is the creator/developer of EMDR therapy, designated as an effective trauma treatment by many organizations, such as the American Psychiatric Association & the World Health Organization. She is a Senior Research Fellow Emeritus at the Mental Research Institute in CA., Director of the EMDR Institute, & founder of the non-profit EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs, which provides pro bono training & treatment to underserved people worldwide. Dr. Shapiro is a recipient of the International Sigmund Freud Award for Psychotherapy, presented by the City of Vienna with the World Council for Psychotherapy, the American Psychological Association Trauma Psychology Division Award for Outstanding Contributions to Practice in Trauma Psychology, & the Distinguished Scientific Achievement in Psychology Award, from the California Psychological Association. Her most recent book is, Getting Past Your Past: Take Control of Your Life with Self-Help Techniques from EMDR Therapy.
