Mark Wallis is one of the most experienced and versatile producer, engineers around having recorded classic cuts for Travis, The Smiths, U2, Talking Heads, The La's, The Go-Betweens, Kirsty MacColl, Keane, Ronnie Lane, Aswad, The Primitives, Marianne Faithfull, Roger Daltrey, Desmond Dekker, It Bites, The Icicle Works, Japan, The Silencers, Jon Anderson & Chris Squire, The Wildhearts, Lionel Bart, REM, The Quireboys, Marvin Gaye, Tom Verlaine, Steve Lillywhite, Joe Boyd, Albhy Galuten, David Kershenbaum, John Leckie, Al Kooper, Arthur Baker and many others.
Born in 1957, Mark left school in 1974 and started his musical career at DJM Studios London. Whilst there Mark started to learn his craft going through the “traditional” apprenticeship path of tea-boy, tape copyist, assistant engineer then engineer.
In 1978 he was head hunted by Marcus Osterdahl to help setup and build Marcus Studios in Bayswater London. This was a very fruitful time for Mark working with many of the top acts of the day. In 1982 Mark decided the time was right to “go freelance”. And since then has been in constant demand to help deliver his very individual brand of musical capture. In the preceding years Mark Wallis has become the “go to person” for labels and producers, who want that ultra wide, big screen, jingle jangle sound on their records.
Recently Mark has been involved in setting up a new studio as a producers co-operative with like minded peers Ian Silvester, Al Stone and Steve Power. Together they have set up a new recording venue in North West London called Unity Studios. One of their main aims is to train young people in the real art of recording musicians and bands, a language they all feel is fast being lost
