Martin Brown



Martin Brown is a highly experienced archaeologist who has worked in the field and in curatorial and consultancy roles. He has worked for national heritage bodies and central and local government. Following almost 10 years with the Ministry of Defence he now works in archaeological consultancy for WYG.com His particular interests include landscape archaeology and conflict archaeology, as well as public engagement. Martin is also a regular broadcaster on archaeological matters and is one of the most experienced archaeologists working in connection with the Great War (First World War) 1914-1918. He has led projects in France, Belgium and in the UK that are connected to the conflict, including training sites, battlefield and support areas and the unique terrain model of the Messines battlefield on Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. Martin is co-Director of the Plugstreet Project and a founding member of No-Man's-Land archaeology group. He is part of the Historic Environment Team for Defence Estates and has been a professional archaeologist for over 20 years.
