Dr. Llorente has had the privilege of working for the Department of Veterans Affairs since 1995 and has been the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health at the Washington DC VA Medical Center since August 1, 2010.

Dr. Llorente was born in Havana, Cuba, and came to the United States as an infant. She completed her M.D. Degree at the J. Hillis Miller College of Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida and her psychiatry residency training at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami.

She is Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in general psychiatry and has added certification in geriatric psychiatry. She has served on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry and has been named among Best Doctors in America since 2001.

She is currently a Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She has participated in numerous research studies including potential treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, examining models of mental health services delivery for geriatric patients, screening for substance use disorders among older adults and the long term impact of combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder.
