Dr. Amy Brown

Dr. Amy Brown is a professor at Swansea University, leading the MSc program in Child Public Health. She became interested in the barriers women face when breastfeeding when she had her first baby. Three babies and a PhD later, she continues to explore psychological, cultural and societal barriers, with an emphasis on understanding how we can better support women and subsequently raise breastfeeding rates. Her primary focus is how we can shift our perception from breastfeeding as an individual issue to a wider public health problem, with consideration of societal changes that can protect and encourage breastfeeding. Dr. Brown has published over 60 papers about barriers women face with breastfeeding. She is also the author of “Breastfeeding Uncovered: Who Really Decides How We Feed Our Babies” (2016) and “Why Starting Solids Matters” (2017) “The Positive Breastfeeding Book,” her third book, is available for preorder. Her blog explores breastfeeding, mothering and caring for our babies.
