Dr. John C. Pine

Dr. John C. Pine retired in 2015 from Appalachian State University, where he served as Director of the Research Institute for Environment, Energy & Economics (RIEEE) and Professor, Department of Geography and Planning (2009 - 2015). He joined the Appalachian faculty after serving 30 years at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he directed the graduate and undergraduate Disaster Science and Management Program, and as Professor in the Department of Geography and Anthropology and the Department of Environmental Sciences. His research centers on emergency planning, hazards and risk assessment & management. His recent publications include Natural Hazards Analysis: Reducing the Impact of Disasters in 2014 (2nd Edition), Technology and Emergency Management in 2016 (2nd Edition) and Tort Liability Today in 2005. He has served on the Board of Visitors for FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He has been published in numerous journals.
