John R. Platt

John R. Platt is the editor of The Revelator (www.therevelator.org) and has been an environmental journalist for nearly 15 years. In today’s world of short news cycles and click bait articles, independent and thoughtful ‘slow journalism’ has never been more important to connect the dots between critical issues in politics, conservation, history, art and science, with an aim to hold corporations and politicians accountable through incisive reporting, and deepen the national environmental discourse. John’s column, Extinction Countdown, has covered news about science about more than 1,000 species around the world and is now part of The Revelator. John has also covered cutting-edge technology, science careers, philanthropy and the arts and won several awards for his journalism. He also has a ‘webcomic’ which sometimes touches upon the same subjects as his reporting. John lives outside of Portland, Oregon.
