Lauren Schandevel

Lauren Schandevel is a 4th year public policy student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In January 2018, Lauren crowdsourced a document titled "Being Not-Rich at UM" in which low-income students could identify resources and share experiences. As the guide grew, she became more invested in conversations about college affordability and decided to start the student organization Affordable Michigan with her friend, Griffin St. Onge. Affordable Michigan served as an advocacy group for low-income students on campus, tackling important issues like housing, food security, and workers' rights. Today, Lauren serves as the chair of student government's Michigan Affordability Task Force and seizes every opportunity she can to advocate for her peers.
