Gillian Weaver

Gillian Weaver, BSc, RD has specialized in human milk banking and breastfeeding for 30 years. From 1989-2015, she managed the longest continually-operating milk bank in the world. During that time, she proposed/co-founded the UK Association for Milk Banking and was instrumental in founding the European Milk Bank Association (serving as president 2012-2015). She coordinated international conferences and helped develop donor milk guidelines (including the NICE Clinical Guideline 93 and the BAPM’s Framework for Practice, The Use of Donor Human Expressed Breast Milk in Newborn Infants, and the Resolution on the Use of Donor Human Milk for Muslim Infants). Since 2016, she’s been an international consultant, helping establish banks in Australia, India, Kenya, and Vietnam. With Dr Natalie Shenker, she co-founded and is a director of the Hearts Milk Bank and the Human Milk Foundation. Gillian continues to lecture, write, and contribute to human milk banking projects around the world.
