Neil Beresin

Neil is a counselor and interfaith chaplain who specializes in grief, loss, and transition. His clients are often experiencing overwhelming heartache: on the tailwinds of divorce, the death of someone dear, or, from a life-altering struggle. Neil meets individuals where they are and helps them reflect on, metabolize and reshape their loss in a safe, sacred, peaceful space. The work may include increasing their ability to cope with change and vulnerability, and the anxiety and despair that can emerge. Neil may use poetry to provide additional comfort, deepen the space, and encourage reflection and opening. He wrote an article, “A Chaplain’s Notebook: Poetry as Spiritual Nourishment” that was published in the Journal of Pastoral Care & Counseling in March of 2020. Neil moved into chaplaincy work as an encore pathway following the death of my parents five weeks apart in 2014. The experience of caring for and companioning them in their final nine month of life was profound and life-changing.
