Maylynn Quan
Maylynn Quan is a Canadian photographer based in Toronto, Canada and was born in Trinidad and Tobago. After university she was ready to jump provinces to travel and learn French, but a friend told her to jump continents; so she did. She was the 5th, and last au pair, for 3 spirited kids in France; bought a classical guitar and fell in love with Antoni Gaudi’s beautiful architectural sense of fun in Spain, served morning coffee to budget travellers and discovered Belgian chocolate in Belgium, sampled tagines and green teas in Morocco and explored Europe with a backpack, great friends and a pocket dictionary. Toronto finally called her home but her brother’s old Nikon film camera, and darkroom lessons in a small washroom at the back of a friend’s old photo lab, soon took her to Mexico. Nothing touches her more deeply than to see the eyes of those she has photographed - to witness the power of one photo to make someone feel beautiful. To Maylynn, everyone is photogenic because beauty and strength truly emanates from within. She is the mother of 2 and founder of Kids Canada – A non-denominational, non-political organization of kids helping kids. Hand Ups not Handouts.
