Dr. Martha Santiago was elected to the Polk County Commission, District 4. She is the only woman Commissioner in a five-member governing body that serves as the legislative branch of county government. She is proud to serve her county, and works diligently to ensure that Polk County is the best County it can be…that is her goal! Dr. Santiago is the small business owner of Leadership Consultants, LLC. With over 30 years as a leader both professionally and in the community, her goal is to work with organizations that are investing and aspiring people to serve others as leaders. In 2017, Dr. Santiago ended her long career in education, which began in 1978, She retired as the provost for Polk State College’s Winter Haven campus. A resident of Winter Haven since 1980, Dr. Santiago volunteered many hours to community causes, serving on numerous county-wide and local boards. Dr. Santiago is always guided by Mother Teresa’s words, “A life not lived for others is not worth living.” Dr. Santiago has been recognized for her dedication to education, the community, and for her dedication to public service.She holds a doctorate degree from the University of South Florida, a master’s degree from Florida International University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico.She has been married to Alex Santiago for 45 years and is the proud mother of two children who live in Polk County, but the highlight of her life? Her four beautiful, smart, and loving grandma!
