Amaris Martins
Amaris Martins is a member of the graduating Class of 2022 from The East New York Arts & Civics High School in Brooklyn, NY. As the only girl in a Caribbean family, she has spent the majority of her time helping out with her special needs brother and working a job to help out her family. Along with her strong academics and love for political science and history, she developed a passion for writing and music. As a student representative for the We the Youth Advisory Council, Amaris worked with minority- and youth-centered organizations to help abet local change in her city. She has also worked with Shaeleigh Severino on campaigning for the 2021 NY City Council Election, as well as founding her student-led organization called “The Censured”, to help fight against biased media and help more youth get involved in politics. In her free time, Amaris enjoys swimming and playing the piano and steel pan.
