After a celebrated career as a Television Broadcast Journalist in Liberia, West Africa, and special Press Secretary to the country’s first woman Minister of Agriculture, Angela immigrated to the United States, following the bloody and brutal military coup in her native Liberia. The first Liberian woman to ever pen & publish a full-length novel, Angela is now an accomplished & award-winning author. The proceeds from her second novel were donated to help build The Hope Academy, in Liberia, to teach girls & boys about the risks of violence against children. Angela & GWPF were partly responsible for legislation to have FGM criminalized in Virginia. They also worked to get education legislation passed to include FGM in the Family Life Education curriculum in Virginia. She recently was part of a special committee to help craft the language of “END FGM ACT”, better known as Bill H.R. 6100, presented by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. The Bill replaced the original 1996 Federal Law against FGM. In 2014, Angela & GWPF made history when they held the first “Walk to End FGM” in the U.S, which has become an annual event. The recently released a training manual on FGM to be used by schoolteachers & school counselors, and continue to conduct training webinars for educators, healthcare workers & law enforcement.
