M. David Rudd

M. David Rudd is Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, Director of the Rudd Institute for Veteran and Military Suicide Prevention, and former president (2013-2022) of the University of Memphis. He received his BA from Princeton University, his MA and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and completed postdoctoral training with Aaron T. Beck at the Beck Institute. Dr. Rudd has garnered over $28M in grant funds, produced more than 250 publications, multiple books including Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention, The Treatment of Suicidal Behavior, and the Assessment and Management of Suicidality. His work has been cited over 15,000 times and he was recognized as being among the top 1% of most impactful suicide researchers over the past decade. He previously served as Chair of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, president of the Texas Psychological Association, and president of the American Association of Suicidology. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, a founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and board-certified in cognitive behavioral therapy by the American Board of Professional Psychology.
