Maria Brown Hurd

Maria was born at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. Her father was in the Air Force for 20 years. At age 12, she moved to Okinawa, Japan for three years. As a family she loved it! Her Junior High was an old WW2 prison camp with barbed wire all around! There were even guards at the gate of the school carrying guns. A week shy of 18, she married Jack Hurd. They have now been married 50 years! When she was 24, Jack, Maria, and their 3-year-old daughter lived in the Philippines for 10 months. At the age of 25 she had emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy on Christmas Eve. And at the age of 34 she graduated from college and became an RN and worked for 18 years in the state of Colorado. She has been on 21 cruises and an African Safari. She has also been a Hospice Volunteer for seven years. She counts it a blessing. December 2020 Jack gave her a rifle – Maria shoots a Henry Lever Action 22 Rifle and is a natural at it. October is breast cancer awareness month and she put together Chemo Care Kits for the McKay Dee Hospital. Last September her oldest son passed away of COVID. He turned 40 in the hospital and left a beautiful wife and 5 great kids. Maria’s life and views of a joyful life have changed since her son passed. She says, “Life is still good and I am engaged in life but I also still mourn my son.” She is currently an Independent Beauty Consultant at Mary Kay.
