Carlen Maddux

BIO Carlen Maddux is a career journalist. For 26 years he was editor and publisher of a business magazine he founded covering the Tampa Bay, FL region. He previously was a writer and reporter for the nationally recognized St. Petersburg Times, now the Tampa Bay Times. A native of Tennessee, Carlen attended and graduated from Georgia Tech on a football scholarship and subsequently earned an MBA degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Carlen and Martha reared their three children in St. Petersburg. They had been married 25 years when Martha was diagnosed in 1997 at age 50 with early onset Alzheimer’s. Their children were still in high school and college. Thus began a 17-year odyssey of their family living with Alzheimer’s and its fallout.
