Dr. Terry Beardsley

Dr. Terry R. Beardsley has been serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of S-Cell Biosciences, Inc. (and its predecessor, Vicel, Inc.) since its inception in 1990. Previously he was head of research at the Smith Kline Beckman monoclonal antibody facility in Irvine, CA. for 5 years. During that time Dr. Beardsley co-authored a business plan for SKB’s entry into the flow cytometry business, participated in the initiation of OEM sales of monoclonal products, and was requested to develop a plan to spin-off the monoclonal facility as a separate business. Prior to joining SKB, Dr. Beardsley directed an independent research program for 5 years while serving on the research faculty at the University of California. During that tenure the scientific basis for S-Cell was developed. Dr. Beardsley received his BA in microbiology from UCLA in 1972, with a minor in economics. A Ph.D. was awarded from Baylor College of Medicine in 1976, where Dr. Beardsley focused his work on the Severe Combined Immune Deficient (SCID) child who was isolated in a germ-free environment, the so-called "Bubble Boy." It was this project that inspired Dr. Beardsley to pursue the development of thymic epithelial cells as a source of thymic proteins to support immunocompromised patients which, ultimately, led to the invention of ProBoost, a dietary supplement that helps support the immune system. ProBoost has been called, "the best single immune system supplement available," selling over 16 million packets since the product first became available in 1994.
