James Fanale

Dr. James Fanale is a doctor and former hospital CEO known for his significant contributions to the healthcare field, particularly during his tenure as president and chief executive officer of Care New England (CNE) Health System in Providence, Rhode Island- a unified system of 500 health care providers with expanded access to a wide array of primary care physicians, surgeons, and specialty services. Dr. Fanale graduated magna cum laude from Connecticut College and Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Wagner completed his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, NH. He has also gained recognition for his personal journey battling Stage 4 lung cancer and for his book titled "ONWARD: A Teaching, And A Love Story," which chronicles his experiences living with cancer as both a physician and a patient. Dr. Fanale's leadership at Care New England included initiatives such as the establishment of the Care New England Medical Group and the Integra ACO, aimed at improving healthcare access and outcomes for patients. Through this he served more than 140,000 individuals, while generating Medicare savings of more than $30 million over four years.Additionally, he emphasizes the importance of empathy in medicine and building relationships with patients, drawing from his own experiences as both a healthcare provider and a cancer survivor.
