STANLEY POKRAS, often called “Mr. Helpfulness,” is the founder of Other Networks (at othernetworks.org) which tracks the work of hundreds of transformational organizations worldwide. He also co-hosts the AfterChat for Dr.Jim Garrison's amazing online series, Humanity Rising, from Ubiquity University. Paying homage to the Whole Earth Catalog, Stan documents hundreds of activist websites from around the world Including over 800 episodes of Humanity Rising. On Day 60 of Humanity Rising, he invited people who were writing in the Zoom chat to meet each other in his Zoom space after the daily program concluded. This activity became known as the “AfterChat” and has continued every day since. One current idea he is putting forth would coordinate the development of a global activist calendar of events. Locally in his home town of Philadelphia, Stan volunteers as the bookkeeper and computer consultant for the Afro Culture Preservation Council that has produced the Kwanzaa Children’s Festival for 40 years. He is a member of the steering committee of the Philadelphia Public Banking Coalition which is working to establish the city’s own bank. The Coalition is organizing a “Bring Our City’s Money Home” campaign to put the City’s savings to work for Philadelphia instead of the stock holders of commercial banks.
