Debbie Gorzycki

I am a US Coast Guard Veteran and a Retired Police Officer. After a career-ending injury, I begin a journey learning how to "manage" my chronic pain which led me to learning, practicing, and teaching Taijiquan (Tai Chi) to older adults in my county for several years. After my grandmother tragically died as a result from a fall, I begin instructing the NCOA approved, OAA grant-funded, evidence-based, 4 wk Matter of Balance Fall Prevention Program, as well as the 12 wk Taijiquan: Moving for Better Balance Program. I also taught the Tai Chi for Arthritis Program and Stanford University's 6 wk Chronic Pain (& Disease) Self-Management Programs to older adults in my community. I took care of my disabled mother for nine years. She too had experienced a loss of balance and several falls. She passed away in 2020 from metastatic breast cancer. I too have walked my own path with breast cancer. I currently volunteer with a Disaster Response Organization, Team Rubicon, as a sawyer chainsaw operator. I play pickleball, hike, and am an avid scuba diver. I am about to have my 9th knee surgery and if that is successful, I hope to have my other knee replaced. I often share fall prevention tips and strategies on my Facebook Page: Debbie for Fall Prevention.
