Tom Atzet, Ph.D. (Merlin, OR), regional ecologist (retired) with the U.S. Forest Service, discusses ecosystem health particularly as it pertains to forest ecosystems. A stable ecosystem without "disturbances" is not a healthy system. Ecosystems require "a stress" and "disturbances" in order to maintain long-term help. It is especially important to humans since forests and ecosystems in general must be healthy to sustain our human population.
