In 2006, Merck & Co. rolled out the award-winning “One Less Girl to Get Cervical Cancer” campaign to encourage parents to get their girls vaccinated against four strains of the Human Papillomavirus. Until that time, HPV was unheard of. In the past 7 years, over 31,740 adverse reactions and 144 deaths from the HPV vaccines Gardasil and Cervarix have been reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).
