Twitter has evolved from a vehicle transporting 140 characters on a highway that bypasses typical routes of media distribution to perhaps the primary form of expressing public emotion and support for causes. Nothing has brought Twitter’s role to the forefront than the recent #bringhomeourgirls campaign, created in response to the Boko Haram Terrorist organization’s kidnapping of hundreds of Nigerian school girls. We’ll discuss the rise and impact of Hashtag activism, focusing on how it’s being utilized by sex workers to further their cause for recognition.
