They married in 2006 and were overjoyed when Shannan got pregnant. Sadly, a month later she had a miscarriage and wondering if a family would ever be in their future. Yet after many prayers and faith they were able to start their family. They were blessed every two years with more children which then totaled 4 active, busy children. Life was so busy, but Shannan kept feeling there was another child waiting to join their family. Layla was born 3 years later and was the blessing they thought would complete their family. She was full of love and joy at such a young age, And enjoyed life to the fullest. Sadly, her life was cut short at 19 and a half months. Little did they know that the worst thing imaginable would be part of their story. Precious Layla was found at the bottom of their pool, unconscious and lifeless. They had 2 extra days at the hospital with her, but sadly never got the miracle they dreamed and prayed for. Layla passed away on April 9th, 2020. Through their everyday pain, loneliness, grief and sorrow they have come to lean more upon the Savior for support. They have also found healing and hope from those who have showed up and have gone through the same tragedy of loosing someone they loved so much. Service has become a healing balm of love and giving , In hopes to carry on Layla’s legacy and honor her goodness. They helped create the SRVIVRS foundation, which is geared toward empowering others who have lost to serve in memory of their loved ones. With monthly service projects, weekly inspiring Facebook lives, and a group of support and love this groups goal is to help those who have lost, know they are not alone. They continue to invite others to “see good, do good , share good” and Love like Layla. They share with their children, friends, family and others who are dealing with loss, that the only choice we all really do have is to Survive and serve in honor of our angels in heaven. They are passionate about sharing their raw and real feelings to others who need support. Having Shannan’s older sister, Stacy, experience the death of her daughter only 3 years before her daughter passed, has allowed them to see a road less taken and that there is a better way, amongst the grief and pain they feel daily. They, along with their 5 earthly children and 2 angel babies have chosen to survive and share their story in hopes to give others hope for better days ahead. Some days are better than others, but they continue trying. They hope you feel the support and love they desire to give you during your hardest days of your lives.
