Unmute extols the virtues of living and thinking outside the box. Silence is often the lid on that box. Suffering in silence leaves people with common cause, isolated and mired in misery. Lift every voice that praises life, because you are not alone. Someone has gone before you. It may be true that the first step is the hardest, but personal experience has taught me that choosing which road to travel is just as difficult. I have found that the more obstacles in your path, the greater the reason to choose that road and begin the journey. Topics will range from the evolution of choice, the joys of taking personal responsibility and turning disadvantage into advantage. In addition topics will include the art of forgiveness, writing that book you always have been talking about and dealing with long term health issues and any subject that may spin off from these topics.

Turning disadvantage into advantage has been a way of life for me. Being born to a 15 year old unwed mother in 1959 was not a good start in life, but it was a start. Where I went from there was up to me. If you don’t try, you have already failed and try I did. As a former special ed student who did not learn to read or write until the age of 10 or 11, I thought I would be the last person in the world to write a book. I am also a long term survivor with HIV. Thirty years ago when first diagnosed I was told I would most likely be sick in three years and dead in five. This diagnosis inspired me to live life to the fullest. Someday I will write about that experience but at the moment that pen is too heavy to lift. But I want to inspire others to lift their pens and write their story.
