Episode Description

Kathryn interviews Author Lyn Barrett. Often misdiagnosed, DID (dissociative identity disorder) is known predominantly to be caused by severe childhood trauma combined with a disorganized attachment style. Lyn Barrett shares her own journey going from happy wife and mother to internally living with more than ten distinctive personalities or 'alters.”' Her story is a life-changing gift for all the survivors of trauma and those who love them, and for anyone who wants to educate themselves on trauma-induced dissociation particularly as it manifests as DID. Barrett, a survivor of early childhood trauma, is a speaker and retreat leader, as well as a retired elementary school teacher, school principal and church pastor. She currently facilitates writers workshops, teaches a memoir class for dissociative writers and is heard on public radio, podcasts and other venues.Kathryn also interviews Author, Speaker, Clinical Psychologist Wayne Pernell PhD. At the start of the pandemic it may have been a bit easier to adopt a naively positive outlook of 'someday this will all be over,' but like it or not, COVID may be here to stay. Dr. Wayne Pernell says that the significant point to focus on is the idea that something being 'here to stay' does not equate to that thing as “being our new normal” it simply means that it is part of our long-term reality. He says that we, as humans, are designed to be resilient in the face of change and turbulence. We figure out how to change, alter, and control our situations so that even if they continue changing, they aren’t controlling us. Dr. Pernell, a member of the Forbes Business Council, is quoted in the NY Times, FastCompany, MSN Money, Forbes and published in Entrepreneur magazine.
