Episode Description

Kathryn interviews Author Dr. Stephen Morris. Placing a loved one into an assisted living facility can be an incredibly trying and emotional experience. It’s an enormous decision that does not come lightly. Naturally, families are concerned with the quality of care that the seniors in their lives will be receiving, and are reluctant to trust institutional senior care. According to Dr. Stephen Morris, an academic emergency medicine and public health specialist, small-scale senior care facilities are becoming viable options for families, and providing a much needed peace of mind. Small-scale senior care facilities are operated and supervised by a team of nurses, health care directors, and resident managers who ensure coordination of care, adequate staffing, finance management, compliance, marketing, and collaboration with outside health organizations and providers. “It’s exactly the type of intimate care that our elders deserve,” says Dr. Morris who’s been featured in the NY Times, Associated Press, NPR and 60 Minutes.Kathryn also interviews Author Deanna Singh JD, MBA. Author of American Girl’s first ever advice book on race and inclusion, Deanna Singh aims to help girls understand race, racism, and anti-racism, and why practicing inclusion can have an important impact on our world. Whether girls have seen protests in the news and wondered what they're about, or they've seen someone treated unfairly because of the color of her skin -- or even been treated unfairly because of the color of theirs -- they may have questions about racism. She offers quizzes, tips, and ideas that will help girls learn the best ways to take action to challenge racism in herself and her community. Singh, an accomplished author, educator, business leader, and champion for marginalized communities is internationally recognized for her work in leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusion. While tackling complex social challenges, Singh gives audiences the tools and courage to imagine, activate, and impact the world as agents of change.
