A local economy is made up of businesses that serve need but also builds the community. When you make a purchase in your community, you contribute to the economy by supporting a business owner. The business owner contributes to the economy by providing goods or services that people want to purchase. The business owners contribute by employing community members, being a role model for youth and making purchases at other businesses.
