Are we people of privilege? Jesus himself defines those with the upper hand as the rich, the well-fed, the carefree, and the well-respected. But aren’t those things we strive for—a good bank balance, a good dinner, a good name? Why would Jesus say "Woe to you" about that? Because that privilege can be our prison, locking us away from God and God’s people and even from our own hearts. Our guest, psychologist William Miller, names the four prison walls as greed, anxiety, envy and entitlement, painful symptoms of living outside God’s economy of enough for all. But each of these prison walls has an antidote, a key to the prison door, as Dr. Miller will help us discover during this program. Then Dale Stitt—who has been working for decades with people linking their faith and their money--will share some rich stories of prison breaks, illustrating for us how to live more freely and fully as the people of God.

Many people of faith in today’s economy are searching for meaning beyond their work and consumption. We need deep, healthy relationships undistorted by money. We would treasure a sustainable economy that supports all people as well as our planet. But so often it seems that money rules the world and rules our lives. How do we live as people of God in this time, in this economy? In “Faith and Money: Making the Connection,” we will explore the many aspects of our relationship with money within the grounding of our faith. We will share tools that empower you to get in touch with your money beliefs and choices. A wide range of guests will probe the deep and necessary questions. How do we spend wisely? How do we give and invest our money to make a difference in the world? How do we deal with our fear of never having enough? How do we give our families what they truly need? In short, how do we transform our relationship to money to be true to our calling as people of God?
Mike Little
Mike Little leads the inward and outward work of Faith and Money Network as director. Within the network, Mike fosters relationships with individuals and churches, leading reflections and discussions on the role of money in our lives as people of faith and in our work as the community of faith. He is building a range of resources that you can use to explore spirituality and money.
Mike serves as the lead money mentor, listening to and accompanying individuals who want to deepen their understanding of how money shapes their lives and take actions consistent with that depth of understanding. His Facebook posts and e-mail newsletters keep members up- to-date on relevant news and what he and other people are writing and thinking about faith and money issues. Mike also broadens the discussion into new places. He preaches and teaches in churches throughout the US and Canada, helping them figure out a new definition of stewardship, not as a fundraising campaign but as a way of life.
Since he began as director in 2007, Mike has led trips of perspective in Haiti, India, Nicaragua, and the US. Mike has consulted extensively with nonprofits to help them clarify the role of money in their personal and organizational lives and develop the spiritual grounding to raise money to fund their missions. Mike has a life-long commitment to Christ-centered, justice-seeking movements for social change. He lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife and two children.
