MIRANDA, we’ve all heard the familiar warning on every TV cop show. Most people can recite it. However, the majority of people don’t understand exactly what rights they actually have, and more importantly what rights MIRANDA does not give them. One our premiere show we will explain many of the common myths and realities of MIRANDA. When do you actually have a right to remain silent? If you do remain silent, can that be used against you? When does a law enforcement officer have to read you your rights? And most importantly, if the officer doesn’t give you the MIRANDA warning, what does that actually mean to your case. Our discussion on MIRANDA will explain how not to make a terrible mistake which could affect the outcome of your case. Don’t go from dismissal to conviction just because you thought you understood MIRANDA but didn’t. Learn what to say when dealing with law enforcement and what not to say. You can only protect your rights, if you know your rights.

Lonnie McDowell

Lonnie McDowell was named one of the Top 100 California Criminal Defense Trial Attorneys for 2014 and 2015 by The National Trial Lawyers Association and continues to be one of the best in Los Angeles. He has seven years of trial experience and worked in one of the city’s largest defense firms before striking out on his own to found McDowell and Associates. An alumnus of Southwestern Law School, Mr. McDowell graduated with high honors, made the dean’s list and was awarded with the dean’s scholarship. Mr. McDowell was also a certified law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Nevada, in its Organized Crime Strike Force.

In addition to the American Bar Association, Mr. McDowell is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, The Beverly Hills Bar Association, The Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, The Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College for DUI Defense.
