Episode Description
GMO (Genetically modified organisms) foods are plants modified through gene splicing techniques. When they were first introduced, it was thought that they would solve the world’s hunger problems, although this has now proven not to be the case. With the emergence of weeds and bugs that are resistant to these modified seeds, farmers are now having to use special pesticides to save their crops. The safety of theses foods hasn’t been proven, and new studies are linking them to a growing number of health problems. Most developed nations require these foods to be labeled at the very least, but in North America, we do not. Dr. Risk will be speaking with Diana Reeves, founder of www.gmofreeusa.org to discuss the growing movement to label GMOs and the basic right to chose what is in your food.
