According to the National Institute of Mental Health, in a given year, bipolar disorder affects about 5.7 million American adults, or about 2.6% of the U.S. population 18 and older. Included in this number are our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and close friends. Bipolar disorder is a very common and serious illness. It is not just about mood swings or constantly going from one extreme to the other. There’s so much more to living with bipolar disorder and even living with someone with bipolar disorder.
