Barbara Strongin, Sotheby’s Institute of Art Director of Administration and Licensed New York Auctioneer, will shed light on the auction process from how art objects are obtained, to the surprising stories of the auction participants, to the excitement of the auction itself. She will discuss how the auction process has changed in response to changes in the art market and offer personal observations about her experiences as an auctioneer.

Barbara Strongin

Barbara Strongin is Director of Administration and Lecturer in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She served as Senior Vice President and Director of Operations for Christie’s Auction House for 26 years. She created and taught classes for the auction house regarding the auction process as well as rules and regulations in the auction industry. She pioneered the standardization of auctioneering practices on a global basis.
